7 Unlikely Flavor Pairings at Frost Gelato

As the summer season approaches, dreams of fun in the sun and jet setting adventures fill heads around town. If it’s not possible to jump on a plane and escape, we may have an alternate solution for you.

Frost Gelato offers a taste of Italy in the middle of Preston Hollow Village, where gelato is both fresh (prepared at 5 a.m. daily) and guilt-free. We met with owner Jacqueline Landry to pose a simple question: What are some unique and unexpected flavor combinations? Here’s what our tastebuds experienced.

Cheesecake + Lotus Cookie + Limoncello

(Tastes like Key Lime Pie)

If you’re in the mood for something sweet and refreshing, we have an interesting fusion for you to try. Key Lime Pie may seem an unexpected flavor from the folks at Frost Gelato, but this combination delivers a spot-on taste. The Cheesecake and Lotus Cookie create the base of the sweet-flavored crust, while the Limoncello (an Italian after-dinner drink) brings the citrusy punch that completes the experience.

Alpencarmel + Coconut

(Tastes like Creme Brulee)

If there’s a sweet tooth in your soul, we have the perfect flavor combo for you. The Alpencarmel (also known as Dulche de Leche) delivers a creamy, milky sweetness, while the coconut adds a refreshing hint of summertime flavor. If you need an instant creme brulee fix, this is a promising alternative.

Sea Salt Caramel + Peanut Butter Crunch

(Tastes like Butterfinger)

A lighter than expected combination, the Peanut Butter Crunch and Caramel flavors really do taste like the candy bar, while the sea salt adds much complexity to this pairing. The texture is worth noting, as both flavors give a satisfactory crunch that makes you think you’re eating the real deal.

Rum Raisin + Coconut + Pineapple

(Tastes like Pina Colada)

This combo tastes like a vacation by the beach! The Coconut and Pineapple make a familiar pair, while the Rum Raisin adds a distinct richness that rounds out the flavor combo. It doesn’t come with an umbrella in the glass, but it still feels like you should be enjoying this while watching the waves.

Lotus Cookie + Dark Chocolate + Marshmallow

(Tastes like S’mores)

If you’re in search of dessert, this classic childhood treat has never tasted so good. Although a campfire may seem out of season in the Texas heat, this combination brings back memories of burning wood and brisk nights. Even without the graham cracker crunch, this tastes like the real deal.

Dark Chocolate + Mint Chocolate

(Tastes like Thin Mints)

Look out girl scouts! This dead-ringer for the beloved cookie is a good alternative when they’re out of season. The mint is subtle and balancing, which makes this a refreshing combination despite the initial fear of chocolate overload (as if there was such a thing).

Alpencarmel + Bubblegum

(Tastes like Cotton Candy)

Another flavor for the sweet tooths out there, this combination not only tastes like cotton candy, but the whipped texture of the gelato elicits the cotton candy airiness. Enjoy it without the sticky, sugary residue of cotton candy that’s always left on your hands!

Whether you try these combos or invent your own, Frost Gelato is the destination for summer flavors. Let us know which tasty combinations you come up with!
